About the Collection

For many years I have photographed others in professional and private situations, always pointing my camera away from myself. In this project, I turned the lens around and sought to expose the 12 inches behind the camera.

While the rest of the world works out roles of sexuality and gender, I have never had a sense of either. I see myself very much as the unseen force behind the scenes. When I began this project I believed that I struggled with body dysmorphia. Hundreds of photos later I have come to the realization that my view of myself is a mind imprisoned in a body that continues to fail me. I have never considered that as bleak as it sounds, it has simply been my truth.
